Santa and Operation Lifesaver — Every year just before Christmas, kids and their parents are given the opportunity to ride a VRE train to meet Santa and friends, who are on board to promote rail safety and Operation Lifesaver’s “Look, Listen and Live” campaign. There will be plenty of Santa’s helpers handing out candy canes and coloring books, along with other festivity-makers.
Toys for Tots — In addition, Operation Lifesaver Santa Trains also work in conjunction with the Marine Corps Toys for Tots. So on the day when VRE Santa Trains operate, the Spotsylvania, Fredericksburg, Manassas, Burke Centre, and Woodbridge stations will also serve as drop off sites for the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Campaign. VRE is encouraging everyone to bring an unwrapped toy to the Santa Trains so that someone less fortunate in the Virginia area can share in the joys of the holidays. VRE will not be collecting cash donations onboard the train, but you can send your monetary donations to https://www.toysfortots.org/donate/Default.aspx
