On May 31, 2021, a new tradition began — a Memorial Day Celebration and Picnic was held at the CCV Park! The morning began with CCV’s own Rolling Thunder motorcyclists riding through the neighborhood as a bagpiper walked along Gadsen Drive and played his way to the park. Neighbors and guests proudly waved flags and greeted them upon their arrival. A ceremony was held with Boy Scout Troop 1865 posting and later retiring the colors; opening remarks were given by CCVCA President Amye Rheault; Supervisor James Walkinshaw gave a poignant and patriotic speech; Girl Scouts Ella Osborne, Sophie Hitchcock, and Maddie Hitchcock presented a red, white, and blue wreath arranged by florist Annika Paquette; and a beautiful rendition of “America the Beautiful” by a trumpeter drowned out the cicadas. During a moment of silence and musical interlude, guests reflected upon all those who have served our country. The ceremony concluded with the bagpiper playing as he left the park.

On Memorial Day Monday, CCV residents are invited to observe a moment of silence outside their homes at 8:30 pm with a U.S. flag and lit candle.
